Helping Today's Stars Reach Tomorrow's Skies

Specials

Specials Team

At Midtown Elementary School, we believe a well-rounded education helps students grow academically, creatively, socially, and emotionally. In addition to core classroom instruction, every Midtown student participates in weekly specials classes including art, music, STEM, and counseling. These experiences provide opportunities for students to explore their creativity, build problem-solving and leadership skills, develop meaningful relationships, and grow both inside and outside the classroom. Our specials program is an important part of creating engaging, balanced learning experiences for every Wildcat.

Hola! It is an absolute pleasure to be your child's Spanish teacher! I graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, CA with a B.A. in Liberal Studies with an Emphasis in Spanish. I have been teaching since 2002 in California, Huntsville City Schools and now Madison City Schools.

Music with Mrs. Francis

Mrs. Francis Midtown Music Teacher

Hello, my name is Ms. Francis and I am in my 24th year of teaching and my second year teaching at Midtown Elementary! Before teaching in the Madison City Schools I taught in Northern Virginia, Tampa, and the San Francisco Bay Area. I love getting to make music with every student at Midtown.

I come from a family of musicians where both my parents are music teachers and my brother is a professional cellist! I started playing violin when I was 4 years old and decided I wanted to be a teacher after meeting my first grade teacher, Mrs. Cramner. Sometime in high school, I switched to the viola and that is the instrument I play and love.

My husband, Nathan and I have an 12-year-old son, Thomas, who is starting 7th grade here in Madison. When all my work is done, I enjoy exploring the area where we live. Currently, I am on a quest to find the perfect cup of coffee and I like treasure hunting in thrift stores.

Art with Mr. New

Midtown Art Teacher Mr. New

Welcome to the Art Studio!

Hello! I am thrilled to welcome you and your child to a new year of creativity and discovery. As a National Board Certified Teacher in Early to Middle Childhood Visual Arts, I am deeply committed to providing a high-quality creative education and fostering a vibrant, encouraging classroom culture where every student feels confident exploring their unique voice.

Through hands-on projects spanning drawing, painting, ceramics, and digital design, we don't just learn how to make art—we learn how to think critically, solve problems creatively, and appreciate the beauty in the world around us.

When I'm not in the classroom, you can usually find me working on my own creative projects, getting my hands dirty with pottery, or spending quality time outdoors with my family. I am looking forward to an incredible, color-filled year of growth with our young artists!

STEM with Mrs. Corely and Mrs. King

stem teachers at midtown elementary

Our STEM program at Midtown Elementary School encourages students to think creatively, solve problems, collaborate, and explore the world through hands-on learning experiences. Through engaging activities and innovative projects, students develop skills in science, technology, engineering, and math while building confidence as critical thinkers and future innovators.

Mrs. Corley and Mrs. King work together to create exciting STEM experiences that spark curiosity and encourage students to explore, design, build, and problem-solve in meaningful ways. Mrs. Corley brings years of classroom experience across multiple grade levels and a lifelong passion for education. She is also a published author of the picture books Do Superheroes Brush Their Teeth? and Do Superheroes Go to School? Together, our STEM teachers help create a learning environment where students are encouraged to take risks, think creatively, and discover the joy of learning through exploration and innovation.
