Book Fair

Midtown Book Fair

Get ready to stock up on some great reads! Midtown’s Fall Book Fair will be open this week! Students will have the opportunity to shop during the school day, and families are invited to join us for Family Night this Thursday, October 29, from 4:30–6:30 PM, during our PTA Trunk or Treat event! If you are interested in volunteering for a few hours during the school day--we would be so appreciative! Here's the signup link.

Keep an eye out for the Book Fair flyer coming home with your child, which will include shopping information and an optional form for families who have specific shopping preferences.

Reminder: Our Book Fair is coinless this year, so please send bills rather than coins for cash purchases. Create an e-wallet for your child to use during the fair for easy shopping!

We can't wait to see our Wildcats find their next favorite books!

Typing Challenge

District Wide Typing Challenge

Get ready, Wildcats! Our students are taking on a Typing Agent Survival Challenge from October 19–December 11!

Throughout the challenge, students will work to improve their keyboarding skills, focusing on typing accuracy, proper hand positioning, and building confidence at the keyboard.
As students work toward their weekly goals, they'll unlock survival gear on our hallway TV displays, watching their grade level's campsite come to life!

Practicing at home? Students can access the "Typing Agent" app through their chromebook CLEVER page. We encourage families to help reinforce proper hand positioning and keyboarding techniques! While it may be tempting for students to use the "hunt and peck" method, developing good typing habits now will help them become faster, more accurate, and more confident typists in the future.

We can't wait to see our Wildcats rise to the challenge!

Midtown Schoolwide Fundraiser

Our school fundraiser continues through October 29th!

This year, our goal is to make a meaningful impact across Midtown by supporting several important needs. Funds raised will help provide resources for our Special Education and EL departments throughout the year, create grants for after school clubs, provide supplies, registration fees, etc. so more students can participate regardless of financial circumstances.

We also hope to make some exciting additions to our outdoor spaces, including sturdy benches, a stage curtain, and add helpful organizers to our cafeteria.

Every contribution helps us create more opportunities for our Wildcats and make Midtown an even better place to learn and grow. Thank you for supporting our school and helping us make a difference for every Wildcat!

Midtown Rock Your School

Midtown will celebrate Rock Your School on February 11th! While many schools choose to celebrate in the fall, we are excited to bring the energy and fun to Midtown in February.

Rock Your School is a special event designed to transform classrooms and learning spaces into exciting, themed environments where students participate in hands on, high engagement learning activities. The goal is simple: create an unforgettable day that sparks excitement, builds relationships, and reminds students that learning is FUN! Our theme this year is Throwback Thursday! The plan is for each grade level to represent a different decade. This will be celebrated on a day this fall.

To make this day extra special, we are looking for parent volunteers to help organize decorations throughout the school. This would include coordinating volunteers, gathering decoration ideas, and helping create a fun and welcoming atmosphere for our students and staff.

If you enjoy planning events, decorating, or simply want to help make a memorable experience for our Wildcats, we would love your support! We really need your help making this special for our students!

Midtown Trip Planner

Did you know? Missing just 2 days of school per month can add up to nearly 18 days a year, putting a student at risk for chronic absenteeism. Regular attendance helps students build strong academic skills, develop friendships, and stay connected to their learning.

Please utilize the trip planner below to avoid missing instructional days. Every day matters at Midtown!

FOCUS Act Reminders

Please remember that students are no longer permitted to use cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, gaming devices, headphones, earphones, or personal laptops during instructional hours, which are from 7:40am-2:40pm. These devices must remain powered off and stored securely in student's backpacks while in classrooms and hallways throughout the school day.

Midtown Facility Dog-Daryl

Midtown Elementary School is very thrilled to partner with Service Dogs of Alabama and the Alabama State Department of Education by having a trained facility dog at Midtown. Daryl is our four legged best friend. Daryl is a Labradoodle!

Uses of a facility dog at Midtown Elementary
  • Helps reduce symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression
  • Helps process grief and loss
  • Helps students open up about issues impacting them emotionally/academically
  • Helps students with social communication difficulties to improve social skills
  • Helps students with sensory integration needs to improve language production and social interaction
  • Helps reluctant readers improve fluency
  • Helps make the school a more welcoming and inviting place
  • Helps increase overall staff and and student morale and positive connection to school

Please click here to fill out the Facility Dog Opt Out Form. This is only if you do not want your child to participate with Daryl.

Joining the PTA is a simple way to support your child’s education, stay informed, and help shape a positive school experience for all students. Even a small involvement can make a big impact! Please click here to join. We would love for as many families as possible to join!

Madison City School Year Calendar

Background Check Link

If you are interested in chaperoning field trips and some additional supervising volunteer opportunities, a background check will be required. Please click here to access the link. It takes time to process and needs to be renewed yearly. I would encourage you to complete this as soon as possible!

Morning and Afternoon Carline

  • Morning car line is from 7:10-7:40. Class begins at 7:40, so please arrive no later than 7:35. Please have your child sit on the right side of the vehicle and be ready to exit the vehicle as soon as the cars stop within the loop. If the student is able to get out of the vehicle once the cars are stopped and the staff gives the signal, we would like to highly encourage them to do so. Please drive with purpose as the staff is waving you forward. In the morning carline, please make sure your car is in PARK when stopped. This is VERY important for student safety. Beginning around 7:30 and buses are clear, we will have a line of cars exit at the bus loop. Thank you for your help!
  • Please only enter for carline from Landers or Plaza. Car line entry is at the guard shack directly off of Coefer Blvd. All cars entering the car line should be turning right off of Coefer or proceeding straight across from Landers. There should be no left turns into the car line from Coefer. Please review the diagram below.
  • The Kroger parking lot or front office parking lot are not approved drop off locations for students. This becomes a safety concern as staff are only expecting students to be bus riders, walkers, or be dropped off through the carline. We will have staff monitoring this as we want to make sure all students are safe. Thank you for your help!
  • Afternoon Car line will begin around 2:45pm. Please follow the staff directions and do not switch lanes once directed. This will only result in longer wait times for all vehicles. The students are input into a system and there is a purpose for the lane you are directed in. Please also leave your tag visible for the entire time in carline. Thank you!

Bus Information

Please view the bus information email from Dr. Cecil.

Walker Information

  • Please make sure you live in the neighborhoods surrounding the school such as Cottonwood or Park Meadow to be a walker. Please do not pick up from April Dawn Drive if you do not reside in Cottonwood.
  • We would like to strongly discourage any families from using the Kroger parking lot as a drop off and/or pick up. This is not allowed. The crossing guard is allowing the students to cross Wall Triana, therefore we do not feel this Kroger option is safe. Thank you for your understanding of this.
  • The crossing guard will only be at Wall Triana and Coefer until 7:35am. If you choose to walk your child, we wanted to make sure you were aware of this.
  • Park Meadow Walkers: In the afternoon, please be prepared to meet your child on the sidewalk where the crossing guard is located at the intersection of Wall Triana and Coefer.
  • April Dawn/Cottonwood Walkers: In the afternoon, please be prepared to meet your child by the gate closest to the neighborhood near carline.

Birthday Celebrations

We love celebrating our students at Midtown!

We strongly encourage one of these options to best celebrate your child:

  • A nonedible treat such as a bouncy ball, slinky, sticker.
  • A store bought prepackaged treat, not to include cupcakes.
  • A popsicle if allowable by your child's teacher.

Unfortunately, we will not allow or suggest cupcakes or donuts to celebrate your child's birthday. Please also know the above options are completely optional and absolutely not required. Thank you for your understanding!
